![]() There are only a few films with more than a handful of reviews, and only one of those is earning overwhelmingly positive reviews: The Lady in the Van. It has been a year since Emma (Isabella Ferrari) left her husband, Antonio (Valerio Mastandrea), to live in her mother's cramped apartment with her adolescent daughter, Valentina (Nicole Murgia). It is one of the worst weekends to release a film in limited release, because the Oscars nominations were just announced and people who are most interested in limited releases are more likely to check out any Oscar nominated film they might have previously missed. Limited and VOD Releases: Oscar Bounce Dissuades New Releases However, in the end I went with Dark Passage, a classic Film Noir with a famous hook. On a side note, the film is so good, I was tempted to make it the Pick of the Week for the second week in a row. The Deadpool Blu-ray arrived last Tuesday, which is par for course for Fox, as their screeners always seem to arrive as late as possible while still technically not being late. However, Orphan Black: Season Four earns the seldom awarded Puck of the Week, as the best Canadian release. In the end, I went with To Have and Have Not on Blu-ray as Pick of the Week. In fact, there are five Pick of the Week contenders, six if you include Belladonna Of Sadness, which came out last week, but the screener arrived late, so the review didn’t get published till the weekend. That’s not to say there are no high quality releases this week. Fans of the Pitch Perfect film franchise might want to pack their bags because Adam Devine‘s Bumper is heading to Germany for the next stage of his singing career. ![]() It is far from the best in terms of reviews.
